Loyal dog refuses to leave friend hit by car

A black Labrador retriever braved Los Angeles traffic to stay beside another dog that was fatally struck by a car.



A motorist who saw the dogs on a La Puente street last week put down traffic cones to alert other drivers and shot video of the dogs. The video, released on Saturday, shows the female Labrador lying next to a motionless, yellow Labrador as vehicles pass by. Blood can be seen around the dying, or dead, dog’s head while the two-year-old Labrador waits by its side.

Animal control officials later arrived at the scene and took the scared but unharmed dog to a shelter. They praised her loyalty, and named her Grace. No one has come forward to claim her, so she has been put up for adoption.
